How Bitcoin transaction fees are estimated
A Bitcoin network fee equals the transaction’s virtual size multiplied by its fee rate in satoshis per virtual byte. Size depends on inputs, outputs and script type, rather than the amount of Bitcoin sent. Estimates reflect current network conditions and can change before a transaction confirms.
Data, privacy and limitations
Live estimates use mempool.space, with Blockstream as a fallback. When both are unavailable, the last successful sample is labelled stale, and a custom fee rate can still be entered.
