Estimate network costs from transaction size and current fee rates.

## How Bitcoin transaction fees are estimated

A Bitcoin network fee equals the transaction’s virtual size multiplied by its fee rate in satoshis per virtual byte. Size depends on inputs, outputs and script type, rather than the amount of Bitcoin sent. Estimates reflect current network conditions and can change before a transaction confirms.

## Data, privacy and limitations

Live estimates use mempool.space, with Blockstream as a fallback. When both are unavailable, the last successful sample is labelled stale, and a custom fee rate can still be entered.

Amounts and investment scenarios stay in your browser. These tools provide educational calculations, not personalized investment advice. These calculators are free to use.

Bitcoin Core 31.1 is a maintenance release with changes that matter to node reliability and privacy. For readers who usually follow Bitcoin through price charts, it offers a useful reminder that network software has its own operational concerns, separate from the market value of BTC.

A Bitcoin transaction fee is influenced by the space a transaction uses and the demand for confirmation. The amount of bitcoin being sent is not enough to determine the fee. Understanding virtual size, fee rates and changing network conditions makes an estimator much easier to interpret.
